last semester, back in tallahassee, i worked for a studio at florida state university, seminole productions. between my friend tyler ginter and i, we did more than an amalgam of work. from a record quantity, and in my opinion, quality, the two of us pushed each other to do work unseen by our studio and especially by myself. and in lieu of all of this backstory, tyler and i submitted to our studio head, mark rodin, most of our work to be entered into an awards festival known as the Communicator Awards. these awards are given to individuals in the field of communicatons. they offer awards to those in the area of audio, print, and video. and so just last week i was emailed by the head of our studio, mark rodin, who told us that numerous pieces of ours were awarded winings. hence my writing. three of my pieces were awarded the following: Award of Excellence [highest] - Pow Wow 2006 - Opening Title Use of Graphics/Design Award of Distinction [second] - Women’s Basketball Open 2006 Use of Special Effects/Animation Award of Distinction [second] - Pow Wow – Countdown Video 2006 Editing [the image displays only the awards of distinction awarded to the studio] you can view the full list @ communicator awards 2006 you can view all three of these pieces on my website @ my site our studio was also just recently written up in TV Technology magazine. my friend tyler was interviewed and mentioned me within it. quote... you can view the full artilce in the online edition @ tv technology online [page 44 & 45] //nick

productive

so i'm back in birmingham, again. spent the weekend in houston on tour. good times, what can i say... the weekend went well but i'm always glad to be back at the apartment, in my room. as much as i love road travel, i do love my small piece of home that i can come back to and relax in. i enjoy having both, what can i say. we are now all but five stops away from the end of tour and the offical beginning of camp season. this week student life begins sending out letters to those who are being offered a summer position. i just find it pretty crazy that it's already the end of february and the beginning of may, when all of those in production arrive, are all but three months apart. funny how i never knew of such a life a year ago. there i was waiting for my letter that would all too soon bring me to this new life beyond college. funny how it all works out. it's even funnier to see how God works it all out. here i am. sitting in birmingham, al right now. eight hundred miles from home. living a life i've never known befor. meeting people. having discussions. enjoying coffee with someone. traveling the country. who knew? God has brought me here to do his work. to live my life for Him. i don't recal Jesus taking the easy route last i remember. the life He lived was far from such things. why would ours be any simplier? Jesus came to cross roads and build bridges or something like that. the way i see it is the path to that bridge is the hard part. He came because of love for us. so, He lived this ridiculous life to make things easier for us. so that we today can be disciples, moving His work even further. happened to run across this verse on a site... 1st john 4.9/10 [message] "this is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. this is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God." //nick

perspective

another week in the office has passed for me and we come that much closer to realizing we are well in to the second month of 2007. in the past two weeks i've had more than my fair share of things to do around the office. the craziness still seems to maintain itself still. what probably doesn't help me is being present in the office only on mondays and tuesdays. i then take wednesday off and hit the road thursday through sunday. i really wonder most of the time how cut out i am for the job. i wander around the office, talk to everyone else, and wonder why student life chose me to work for them. everytime i talk to our head lighting director, jason norris, im asking myself this same question, why am i qualified? but i think that it all comes with your perspective. i might be wrong here but just the other day i was reading this book i have. i guess you could be contemporary christian and call it a devotional if you wanted to. point being, these guys talked about this idea that if your doing what you love to do God will back you with what, where, when, why (the whole 5Ws thing). it's totally hard for me cause i get so overwhelmed sometimes worrying about my own well being in it all. i find this all way easier said than done. ill have to get back to this thought. as for now, ive got to jet from this coffee shop. id recommend it. o'henry's coffe in homewood. check it out. laters //nick
